I don't want just any puppy however ... I had a cocker spaniel as a lad and I would like to finish my life with a pet that is friendly, comfortable with children, country living with a warm den. Someone to walk with and trust by my side, not too friendly to strangers and doesn't take a lot to feed or take care of.
These two are on sale, but $1,200 usd is a little high.
I'm thinking more along the lines of $500 to $600 each and purchasing two, male and female from two different breeders.
Black and tan would be more what I would prefer, blondes are nice though. I wonder what one blonde and one black ebony puppy would produce?

Have you considered adopting from death row...I mean, a shelter? Often young healthy dogs are dropped at shelters by people who decided they can't be bothered with the dog's hair colour not matching the sofa.
May I suggest you browse the web on 'shelters' and healthy young dogs being dropped there, and 'puppy mills'.
Dogs exist as such because of 'homo sapiens' influence. Some can understand up to 200 words.
And dogs adapt easily and quickly, at any age. Their instinct is to try and please the 'alpha', you.
Mine learned to do a few things right just by watching me, no need for intensive training. They copy our behaviour.
