Sound much like what happened to me only it was just above my ankle and I was either asleep or did not notice it.They say the pain level form the bite can vary from little more than a prick to a bee or wasp sting.
I got lucky though as I did not really get sick though my upper foot and ankle where swollen.They also figured it was a bite as well so it must have bit me only an hour or so before I woke up.
They actually gave me an IV with antibiotics right away which surely must have helped.Still I had to use crutches for a few days as it was very painful to put any weight on that ankle.So the the doc gave me convalescent leave.It was pretty funny because he obviously knew that just a few days of resting my leg would clear it up.He pretty much gave me a wink when he wrote down one month.He "ordered" me to go on a vacation.The great thing about convalescent leave in the military is that it does not cost any of your regular earned leave and you do not need approval because it is ordered by a doctor.
In the end I was actually glad that spider bit me.I had to hobble around for two or three days then I got to rest my leg and all was well so I just took the meds they prescribed me and went on a three week vacation.
