Besides the costs of getting A WWII era sub to full running condition would easily cost a few million dollars not to mention the cost of having people able to actually properly operate the thing.Nor to consider the risk this places on the irreplaceable vessel either being damaged at sea or worse sinking.
No I think having a sub in good shape with some bits that still can operate to some extent to give people a little history lesson is more than enough to ask of an old war horse.
I am likely a bit off on my operating costs as well an A-1 Skyraider such as the one in my sig I recon costs about one or two million to get up to flying condition and then if you add the yearly operating costs.
