If you play GWX/SHCommander long enough anything can happen. Case in point Kaleun Robert Burzan takes the U-73 VIIIB out for his 1st Combat Patrol. He left from Konigsberg on 28-8-39 and made his first sighting of an enemy vessel on 8-9-39, a destroyer. Down to periscope depth and his sound man gets multiple, fast contacts moving from NE to SW at long range. Up goes the scope and there are the Hood, the Renown, 2 heavy cruisers and 6 destroyers moving at 17 knots. Too good to pass up. He set up a shot for about 5,000 meters. With 3 type I torps he can shoot, but the type II in tube four will have to wait. Fire tubes 1 - 3, loose!

Waiting, waiting, waiting and then three solid explosions:

Three hit on the HMS Hood and she grinds to a halt while her consorts veer sharply to avoid collisions.

The rest of the Task Force sped off and left the U-73 to leisurely put 2 more tops into her. Down she went.

That's right. 1st patrol, virtually the 1st sighting, 1st attack and sinks the HMS Hood for over 9,000 tons a torpedo. Not a bad start for a career.
