Whatever you do don't get greedy and attack the small freighter accompanied by a destroyer or sub chaser. That "freighter" is an "expert" anti-sub ship, equipped with active sonar, depth charges, and multiple deck guns. The escort will be the least of your worries if the "freighter" gets on to you.
