Nope, Clark first; A submarine is an offensive weapon and Gable portrays this in addition to the totally useful tactic he employs in the movie and which any subsimmer must master: the headon shot at close range against an overzealous escort and the eel shot under a screening vessal of shallower depth. Jurgens and Ramius portray the passive and evasive side correctly but that is not a course de guerre sub's primary function except as it enables the vessal to approach or escape to perform that offensive action against the enemy's commerce. Doenitz agrees with me!
