The use of my forum name simply comes from my interest in the "Age of Sail", when scurvy was a real threat to seamen who didn't have the luxury of fresh fruit for their diet......sounds like those American boys were just subsisting on the staple diet of any college age student in this country......Ramen Noodles!! When you don't buy into the Universities Meal Plan ('cause you've been spending your money on the local bar tab), those Noodles in a bag can become your best meal option.

My signature quote comes from my interest in "Wooden Ships and Iron Men" (like the board game I played as a kid), and the bravery that pits men against each other with the most devastating vehicle of destruction of its day. Just something about that time period that captures my imagination. The quote (Don't give up the ship!) is sometimes miss credited to Admiral Perry who did use the quote on his battle flag during the Battle of Lake Erie, when the British lost control of the western Great Lakes. He was simply paying respect to a young Captain Lawrence who lost his life early in the War of 1812. The fact that the crew did indeed surrender the ship to the British after a second broadside attack by the Shannon, did little to diminish the effect of a Captain's command to lead, even at his time of death. Just something about the grit that consumed those during those days, that has me captured.
