The second, was a lone LM Tanker, and I first put 3 torps in, and it stopped
the ship. For next 6 hours, it sat there, half sunk, just lower in the water. So I put 4 more into it.. 4 hours later (game time) I put another 4 lol. In the end, I put all 24 torps into it on both sides, all along each side, and still it wouldn't sink. So I time compressed for 24 hrs, and yep, she was still there.
I couldn't surface to use the gun, as the thing was armed to the teeth with 2 deck guns and 4 x 2, and 2 x 4 20mm guns.
I've had a real bad run lately with invulnerable ships, is there any way at all to fix the problem, or sink the mongrels. And yes, all torps on both ships exploded, and all were between 2 to 10 ft above keel, high speed, Magnetic switch from 1000 yds using Dick O'Kane method.
Now I have to go back to refit yet again.

What version of game are you running and what mods? RFB? RFB uses natural sinking mechanics which makes it tough(little too tough) for it to sink, as read multiple accounts of ships going down in seconds, all depends. Those large tankers blow up real nice when they have fuel as cargo, they dont always have fuel as cargo though, when they have freight, they are tougher to sink as they are modern well built ships. I run TMO.Aim one torpedo just forward of the smokestack, one or two center mass, one forward, this creates flooding and damage in all compartments. The one under the stack should knock out the engine, cause heavy damage, can often set off a chain reaction explosion of volatile cargo such as fuel or ammon. How a ship in the game all depends on what the cargo is.
