Yes indeed, the saved game files gets most folks into trouble when adding/removing mods. The game expects to find the same game files when you replay a saved game point. If you've been shuffling mods in and out and also saving game points in the process, you're asking for trouble every time!
The "SH4" folder, found in the "Documents" folder of your computer (the Documents folder is named differently in the various OS versions) holds your personal option settings and the saved games. Change it like changing your socks! Deleting it will start you over from scratch, but it won't interfere with that new mod you wanted to try. The very least, it gets rid of the old files that will hang a differently modified game.
