The thermal layer undoubtedly does exist, whether or not it makes any difference though is debatable.
I've lost count of the number of times I've been sitting quietly below said layer, all stop, silent running engaged, and I still get pinged and ultimately depth charged into oblivion!......seems I just cant shake off those pesky destroyers, seems once they get a whiff of my boat I'm doomed!
