Maybe, making German units axis-aligned since the beginning of the campaign would prevent neutral ports from refitting our boat
On a side note: what about making the port of Memel (Klaipėda - Lithuania) our starting base. There is a reason for me asking it: the few type VII U-boats which took part into Baltic Operations during the first days of the war, departed from Memel without exceptions. I have read somewhere that they were originally intended to intercept the 3 Polish destroyers bound to England, but as the Peking Plan took place a few days before the beginning of open hostilities, they were called back in Kiel and Wilhelmshaven. Imho an Atlantic boat based in Kiel being ordered to head for the Baltic rather than for the more promising Atlantic and North Sea theatres, makes little historical sense.
