The animal usually doesn't appreciate it one bit (at least not in the few cases that I witnessed). It doesn't do anything good for the animal (except clothing against cold whether which I don't oppose at all) and they often times try to get rid of the outfit (again, maybe my knowledge here is too limited but I've never seen a dog that wanted to wear stuff unless it had learned that it would protect him from the cold). I still don't see the harm in it and I guess it's probably a cultural thing but I think you're overestimating the animals negative reaction. While I have never dressed up a pet I have owned my share of them and not a one didn't like being petted until my hands fell off.

I wonder if you would extend these feelings to dressing up human children? I've never seen a pet fight getting clothes put on them like a kid will.

I also want to differentiate dressing up a pet with cropping their ears or tail.
