Captain Dudley Morton used to walk around the USS Wahoo in his boxer shorts and a tee shirt.....but I bet his crew still addressed him as Captain. I think in the military you don't have to respect or even like the person, but you're supposed to respect the rank.

We NCO's did our best to train our officers. Saluting them when they had both hands full was especially fun to watch.
Or saluting with the left hand instead of the right.
