Our Defence Minister today announced the closure of the Tarin Kot base Australia has manned for almost 12 years. In a lot of ways this is pleasing news, but the future of the province they leave behind is almost certain to be a rocky one. I'll be stunned and amazed if there is not significantly more violence when we go and the local warlords start arcing up against the Afghan security forces we've been training.
