Just about everything mentioned above is what makes the game appealing to me. Otherwise, it would be just another shooter that would hold little interest for me. Throw in some sandbox elements, however, and now you're talking my language. Do what you want, when you want; it's your world, the NPCs just live in it, etc. My kind of game.
And if subsims sold life shooters or RPGs we would see all kinds of AAA moddable simulations. The obvious problem is that they don't.
