The Luftwaffe lost one third of it's Starfighters in accidents that to some degree where caused by maintenance failures (the Germans got more F-104s then the LW could handle), the Canadians even lost half of their fleet - but some other operators lost not a single machine.
In Germany the plane thus became known as "widow maker".
