That's a good question. It's already pretty hard, so I'm not sure what I can do for it. I wiped it down with a good quality leather conditioner when I first got it. Probably is due for another treatment of that.
The leather sling on the Mauser was already red rotted, and there's no going back once red rot sets into leather. I took it off the rifle, put a bunch of leather conditioner on it and put it in the closet. Not sure what to do there. I'd actually love to see if I can find an original leather sling that's in good shape to replace it with. If anyone out there can point me to a reasonably priced original, let me know.
