We had a pong type game (not Pong itself) when I was very little, it had modes like hockey and tennis, but was still basically pong. We also had a breakout console that was again about a dozen variants of the same theme.
First computer games were on a VIC 20, but were mostly cartridge based then I moved to the C64 and things got real with games like Bard's Tale and Ultima. Even ran a BBS in Houston for a while that was sort of gaming and fantasy oriented.
The first arcade game I got really in to was Missile Command and I tore Defender up when it rolled around, but mainly if I was going to spend quarters it was air hockey and foosball, even wound up working in an arcade for a while in my late teens.
