You have such mad dogs in the West too, in form of fundamental Christians hoping for the Apocalpypse to gain access to paradise by going through final judgement day and being found "worthy". The difference is they do not make it up the ladders in London, Washington and Paris in such quantities like in the crazy places of the darker part of the world.
