A couple nukes should be OK. Besides, just miss the oil fields and everything will be OK!
In all reality though, nukes have a very bad rap that they shouldn't really have. They are all and all, just a bigger bomb and if WWII would have happened all over again and we knew the political consequences of dropping all over again? I'd give that order to this day! All the lives that were spared at the expense of just a few (figuratively speaking of course!) It would have taken 6 million dead to take the Japanese mainland - mainly Japanese men women and children, but at least 1 million allies as well.
Carpet bombing with incendaries is actually worse.
