Only thing I can say about the case.

I'd not waste time going for any weapon myself.
If I knew he was drunk without a doubt?
I'd still be beating his dead body when the Law arrived.

I'd only use a firearm should he walk away from Court with little or no punishment.

Then it would be long range and well planned.
