Each new D class destroyer will also have more firepower than the Royal Navy’s combined fleet of eight Type 42
destroyers once she is installed. “One D class ship would be able to knock out the same number of targets
as eight Type 42s because its missile system can track and attack multiple incoming aircraft and missiles,”
a Navy source said.

Lt Cdr Dean Woodruff RN, who has been overseeing Daring's progress, said she was something
special for the Royal Navy. More space has been allocated for recreational areas including
the first purpose built fitness centre. The old-style messes accommodating 30 or 40 men have been replaced
by cabins which sleep six.
All ranks were asked what they would like on board Daring and 95%of their ideas have been incorporated.**
