EDIT: OK so I just tested that again and it did not work. So I went through the mod list and did some testing and found the culprit!!! And the winner is...
TDW FX Fix for Sobers chimney smoke
Disable that mod and it should work!!!!!!

very new here
for start sorry a bought my bad English
i have the same problem with nwhite654
Download sober mods.I followed all methods for new campaign and sh5 crash on desktop with windows missage :windows select info and bla-bla-bla
In the past followed stoianm magnum opus tutorial and install the magnum opus with a lot of more of soders of TheDarkWraith, and others general mods who i download free and one by one.
Install all this and sh5 run OK.What i mean OK :very good speeds,very high shadows,high water,high all ,video card all settings in full (with full hdmi out 1920 x1980)
install all this manually like stoianm (i make later the same and with sobers all mods download list .Is it my second attempt ,after the first crash of sh5 with auto load mep file by sobers,and SH5 crash again).Before install all this like stoianm copy in one safe place my old sh5 saves files (with autosave in bunker and with played campaign) and delete from my documents
With install JSGME make activation all mods like stoianm
(i found for better the JSGME setup install version because a few JSGME downloaded files is copy paste in sh5 main directory)
Run sh5 with empty of load files ,empty of autosaves in bunker and empty of played campaign
MAKE NOW(is not my method but found why sobers list don't run SH5 in my pc)
New campaign
Accept
Type silentotto and enter in unlock campaigns
Coastal water
In skip tutorial yes
Accept
In bunker Esc in main menu
In bunker again
in torpedo officer .......
in campaigns officer
new campaign
SH5 run ok OR
IF I WANT
EXIT windows delete (or save safe) the new SH5 save files
and copy paste the old save files
Run again SH5
continue campaign RUN
autosave bunker RUN
new campaign RUN
INSTALL and TDWs Patcher make the patch changes patch hydrophone,torpedoes,map colors etc.
RUN AGAIN
I decided for better compatibility and perhaps because they believe with download sobers mod all is in newer version and no have conflict unistall the SH5
INSTALL again
make the patch
load sobers list with all methods who found here sh5 crash (after 4-5 times to crash and crash make new window format )
install again SH5
I have now
new format pc
new install sh5
run the game :and crash again
only not tried to install mods 5 by 5 or 10 by 10 to found if some mods have problem with my pc system
i go my system in one my friend and technical in pc to found what going wrong
if and him not found why SH5 crash i followed the nwhite654
if fixed many thanks to nwhite654 from now
irrespective that to me SH5 CRASH many thanks to sober to DarkWraith to stoianm and all of yours here for mods and help
