I have one story to tell.

It was on WaW patrol. I was stationed in La Spezia, serving in the 29th flotilla. On one patrol, I already had sunk three or four ships. I contacted the flotille kommandant Sebastian Hellstrom (Known as Cpt.Thorne here in SubSim) and asked a permission to go to the port of Valletta and photograph the entrance for our Intelligence department.

As I got closer to Valletta, the weather changed to storm. I hesitated for awhile and then decided to give the mission a green light. I went under and slowly made my way towards the port.

Soon, I started to get reports of multiple warships in the vicinity of Valletta. I counted five destroyers and one elco. I sloooowly made my way past them. It was only 23 meters deep where I was.

Then, 4km from the port, I was spotted. I quickly turned my boat around and headed for the deeper waters. All five destroyers came and began to shell me with the depth charges.

Luckily the first four or five salvos missed me. I went on flank speed to travel faster. It was still 9km to the deeper waters.

I had to go back to silent run as the DD´s pounded me with pin-point accuracy. I got hit and lost one sailor and got a minor leaks. I stopped the engines and went to the bottom (which was at 30 meters).

There I was, laying in the bottom, repairing the damages. The DD´s didnt hit me a single time while I was down there. What a luck!

When the damage was repaired, I continued my trip. After awhile, I got hit again. Only minor damage, but one crewman was wounded. I went to as slow speed as I could and continued.

After 30 minutes or so, the DD´s lost me and I got away and headed back to La Spezia at flank speed.

I had beed shelled with 172 depth charges. The crew lived another day.

On the next patrol the U186 was sank, when we got surprised by an enemy DD and rammed.
