This is a commonly reported flaw. I think you can disable those flares by changing this line:
LinkName=5InchStarShellGun
with this one:
LinkName=NULL
in each of the *.eqp files of FX updates.
Probably there is a faster way to do it, but it doesn't come to my mind right now
