I doubt it very much, I view all these things (smokes, e-smokes, quitting 'aids', etc.) as being multiple heads of the same hydra as they are all tobacco products (all produced nicotine comes from tobacco or similar plants).

e-smokes are a way to get around the previous laws and to generate new markets (or get kids hooked which is classic tobacco company behavior). No one also knows the effects of using this product yet, and probably won't for another 10 years.

The nicotine based quitting smoking aids are all well and good, unless you actually follow what they say in the instructions. It is interesting to note that a lot of people tend to transfer their habit from smoking to the quitting aid (gum, patch, whatever), and I would argue the instructions they give tend to promote addiction transfer not cessation, due to the amounts used and timescale of use, and that this is intentional. The cost of this stuff is also nuts.

I honestly suspect that the tobacco companies are behind all of this.
