There is not a general rule. It depends on the mods you want to install. Have a look at their readme for details on what exactly each of their submods is meant for

I think what you are looking for is an UI mod.
You can try either
NewUIs,
CSP Magui, or even
Ui-Boat, though the latter haven't been updated for a while now.
You might want to have a look at
this thread, providing useful suggestions and a basic list of "must" mods
