The engine compartment and torpedo compartment do however have a certain threshold where operations stop. Below some level the engines stop, and torpedo reload stops also. Where this level is, is probably dependant on the mods you are playing.
Since I do my own torpedo targeting I can't see how this influences my accuracy. Might have an effect on duds/premature detonations. But that is simply speculation on my part.

Well i never cared about that too, but the problem with WSM is, if you rise in the campaign over about 1942 the enemys crew level (even random) is most time about "Veteran" or "Elite" (maybe a bit less but sure after 1943) and even convoy ships got merchant vessels with 1 or more guns on it. And with such an high crew rating, these guys hit you with almost every shot in range of 10000 m. So i was thinking about training some boatswains at the guns so maybe i can fire at them from the distance. Very bad are destroyers, because they close up on you and hit you with every shot and because of their small silhouette when directly steering at you, these beasts are very hard to hit and in a convoy with like 4 of them its impossible to win that or your ship sinks after the battle most of the time.

As far as i know, there are 3 Versions out for SHIII:
- WSM 2.0 - Very nice ships but the radio and radar is not working, very very bad and almost not playable. With that you not getting any messages and cant scan ships, convoys etc. in your area...good for a short test or single mission fun with that ships but impossible to play a campaign with it.
- WSM 3.0 - Radio and Radar works but not so much ships like in 2.0.
- WSM 3.0 GWX - Runs perfekt with GWX 3.0 Gold, Radio and Radar works and im using it all the time.
If you need some of these let me know, took me some time to find that things.

Boatswains and officers are better at their jobs as such add more to the bar than an equal number of sailors all else being equal, qualifications boost that effect even further.

So finally there is to say, im gonna fill up as much crew with boatswains as i can and the rest with monkeys. I tried it with the diesel engine for example but there is no speed increase....maybe the ship accelerate is better but i dont think so...
