Lost data is not a new phenomenon.
A copy of Robert E. Lee's battle plans wrapped around three cigars were left laying on the ground where it was found by Union Soldiers before the battle of Antietam.
Of course although the plans were quickly delivered to Union General George McClellan, the Doofus did nothing about it for 18 crucial hours thus squandering the opportunity to defeat the Confederates piecemeal.
