Noted British naval historian Peter Padfield said in his
Battle of the Atlantic that he thought it was amazing that Doenitz never really figured out that the Brits were reading his mail, but also amazing that though they were so proud of cracking Enigma but it never ocurred to them that the Germans were doing the same to them.
