SH5 is beautiful. It has the best graphics I've ever seen (most of what I've seen is from screenshots and a tiny bit of experimentation before my computer decided it couldn't run it) and some awesome harbors. My problem is you can't run a Type II or Type IX and there are only seven merchant types, mostly American (SH3 has well over one hundred if you run the MFM). SH5 also has a very unhistorical campaign system, and a bunch of other things I won't go into now. If and when I finally get a better computer I'll probably run all three of the extant versions, because it's just the way I am.

I think a lot of people in the SH5 forum probably haven't got SH3.

Possibly. I think SH5 is the best submarine game ever made, and people who want a fun submarine game love it for its look and feel. Unfortunately what SH3 has is a fantastic random campaign and that makes it a much better simulation, which is what appeals to many more of us.
On the other hand I've also mentioned many times that I still play the eighteen-year-old
Aces Of The Deep, so my passion certainly to the simulation area.

Anyway sorry for getting snappy earlier.

I probably deserved it. I sometimes describe myself as "quick to judge, quick to condemn and quick to kick myself for being an idiot."
That almost certainly won't stop me the next time somebody asks the same question.
