If you go hearing the "mistery" contacts yourself, you will easily spot the difference between usual contacts and our cetacean friends. In addition, whales are spotted by your watch crew and, when close enough, you can hear them through the hull or spot the water splashes of their blowhole and flukes. Dolphins are a bit harder to spot, but with some luck you should still be able to spot their wake
