About majority decisions and their limits, and direct and representative democracy:

LINK: Liberalismus und direkte Demokratie: Ein Weg zur Begrenzung politischer Macht?

In an ideal EU-world where written laws and treaties actually would still have a meaning instead of being notoriously broken, eroded, turned, ignored, changed and evaded, I could live with what the author says. But the EU is not like that. Instead, the Federal Republic has striking similarities with the former German Democratic Republic in the old East and its puppet parliament and its pseudo-elections, and the EU reminds me extremely strongly of the power structures and administration that we have seen in the former Soviet Union. The tools of democratic claims get abused and hijacked to deceive over the dictatorial ways by which governing power now is processed to secure more power and to actually reduce liberal freedoms and democracy in both Germany and the whole EU.

So much ideological well-meaning and so many ideals fixed in writing on oh so patient paper.

It's a bit like with the bigger chocolate Santa Clauses you can buy in the stores again. They look like so much chocolate - but they all are hollow. And it does not matter whether "made in Germany", "made in the EU" or "made in the US" is printed on the bottom sticker.
