There are at least 4 ways to do it. The first two are historically accurate; realism is compromised with the last two.
1) travel out and back on one diesel at standard speed. Make maximum use of electric motors as well to stretch your fuel.
2)as above, but take advantage of the Milk Cows when they become available.
3) as above on the outbound leg but teleport home when done. Use all remaining fuel hunting at the objective. (realism killer)
4) go to your Realism settings and uncheck Limited Fuel. You can now go anywhere at flank speed for the rest of time.
