I'm pretty sure most of his mods work on steam version too.
The only thing that doesn't is the .exe patch, to my knowledge.
In regards to TDW-free mods - there are plenty. And a lot of mods on the sober's list either can be run w/o TDW UI or have stock-game options.
CSP MaGUI is one of the options.
There is also reaper7's gui somewhere, but I haven't seen reaper7 for a while (I think he went back to SH3 and working on a completely different project there on a different site).
