Okay, I think I got an answer to our questions. Look at
this webpage displaying a 1916 Carl Zeiss binocular telescope.
This is its brandmark and production nmber:
...but the caption says it was pressed
below the right ocular, rather than on the ocular itself. Looking closely at the next image you can see its exact position (on top of the left eyepiece, since the persicope is photographed upside-down):
From what I can see, it seems tha at least on this model there wasn't any logo nor lettering pressed around the lenses.
