I'm new to this forum too but I couldn't avoid to comment when I saw you began with Silent Service I. Yes, it was by Microprose: I had the Commodore 64 disk version.
I still remember that, at that time, it was extremely difficult to get original copies of software here in Italy, so I had to revert to a pirated one (I'm talking about 27 years ago...
). But then I actually got a paper manual too, a hardcopy translated into italian which completely omitted manual TDC firing, so I scratched my head for years to figure out how to use it (I was about 10 years old at that time...now I'm almost 40
).
But then, since the very first time I got my hands on Silent Hunter 3, I played it at 100% realism. Now I'm approaching Silent Hunter 4.
