I thought I was a goner for sure. Only damage was a good soaking for the lookout/gun crew with the spay of their bombs and of course our own sweat and piss.

However, I do not understand why you couldn't dive? Unless it was way to shallow, crash diving is always an option. Nothing can really be gained by duking it out with planes except a gaping hole in the pressure hull. The only time it would be impossible to dive is reloading from external storage and stock does not model this.
