Also, I thought I saw something about 'automation' somewhere, perhaps when I went on the Ubisoft server. Is that something I need to know about please?

Hello She-Wolf,
If you want German voices it's during the install and you would choose Custom Install. There, one of the prompts is English or German Language. This switches the voices to German.
There may still be another way, I'm not sure of it. I only know to do this during the game install (or re install).
