The UBoat add on updates the game to v1.5, which most of the remaining mods still in existance require.
The mega mods are a good choice to start with.
There are 5 all together.
GFO (Game Fixes Only) RSRD (Run Silent Run Deep has a compatible version. And follow what is recommended for installation.
RFB (Real Fleet Boat) Same here for RSRD, just make sure to use the correct version, and follow the installation instructions.
TMO (Trigger Maru Overhauled) RSRD works with it also.
FOTRS (Fall Of The Rising Sun) Not compatible with RSRD due to ships and campaign issues as this mod adds lots of planes and ships not found in the others, although the ship traffic layers to me are too heavy and could use some toning down. But it is cool to see the different ships and planes offered in this one. Of note, the latest version is soon to be available for this mod from reading the threads in the SH4 Mod Forum here.
OM (Operation Monsun) Campaign set up to play the German side. Again, though I don't think RSRD is compatible with this one either.
There is another cool add on that can be used over the top of most of these called OTC (Optical Targeting Correction). It fixes a lot of the resolution issues the game has, since there appears to be no standard for each possible resolution and aspect ratio, but again, read the OTC thread in the Mods Forum to get a better understanding of what it does, and follow the installation instructions provided. As most of the issues that arrise are from not following what is recommended.
There are a lot of other mods that can be loaded over the top of these, but extra care must be taken when adding them. Other than graphic enhancements, like sub skins, and ship skins, it is recommended to load them one at a time, and test the game out accordingly, to make sure that adding them in doesn't cause any ill effects.
Lastly, if you plan on adding mods, and don't have it, get JSGME mod installer. It takes a lot of the headache out of installing and removing mods. Especially if you get into tweaking things yourself.
