Gargamel is right. You must have a officer on the bridge or you will get no warnings at all.
Early in my SH3 life I was rammed and sunk by a destroyer and my watch crew just watched
it happen.
That's one reason I use SH Commander and turn off the crew fatigue. Never get caught without an officer qualified as a Watchman on the bridge.
