Woo Hoo!
Ok, first of all fellas, thank you very much for taking the time to read and reply to my post.
The good news is I have finally solved the problem. My best guess is that my Uplay Launcher was corrupt. It was allowing the game to run but when I tried to save it would crash due to, I think, being unable to communicate with the cloud. Anyways, I was having one last desperate look at the Uplay site and I noticed the 'New for PC Uplay Thingy'. So I downloaded it, installed it, ran the game, got all giddy and excited because this time rather than loading straight from Steam the Uplay launcher came up, so I launched SH5, went and made a life-sized effigy of Clint Eastwood out of matchsticks whilst the game loaded, clicked on 'continue campaign', did a walking tour of all the Welsh Villages who's name begins with the letter 'L' whilst that loaded, tried to save the game, and, whoopie! No crash!
Ok, now, after all this time and frustration, unpatriotic as it may be, the British are gonna suffer!
Thanks again guys, I shall be sure to be checking back to read about these mods you mentioned.
Regards,
Jeff
