That's a huge small mouth!! Six and a half pounds, WOW, that's really big when you consider it's a small mouth bass! They put up quite a fight don't they? Jumping out of the water, diving under the boat.....any bass is fun to catch, their so aggressive.

On Norris Lake, my uncle introduced us to fly rods for catching fish back in the early 60's. We would work an over hung rock bank using flies and had great success. We'd tie two flies on, the first being a floater, the second back about 18 inches being a wet fly that sinks. The bass/blue gills would just tear them up!! I remember catching two at a time many times using those baits. Talk about a thrill when you catch a three-four pounder bass on a fly rod?!

I knew this was going to happen!!

You start talking about fishing, and just like Grandma's "Brag Book" for the grand kids, out come the pictures. In the old days, the fish kept getting bigger, and more of them after each telling. Sometimes the arms weren't long enough to show how large the fish was after the third time of telling the tale! Now-a-days we got cell phones to keep us honest.

Here's my son with an afternoon's catch from up on Lake Nipissing.

Like this past spring, I usually go up in early June before the small mouth come into season. My son went with us a couple of summers ago in late July when these pictures were taken. I think we caught 12 small mouth that trip, with our limit in walleye, and a boat load of perch.

My wife thought our dogs needed the life jackets!! I just think they made them look more "appealing" to the pike or muskie that might spot them in the water. Bon appetit!!
