Part of that article I agree with, part I do not. It's written from a very Western perspective that's, as illuminating as it is on the horrors of Stalin and the failure to see the legacy of Stalin in proper light, also ignores many nuisances and realities in both modern Russia and the USSR of the past. From that, I can tell you that the West fared no better than the former Soviet people themselves in figuring out Stalin's legacy.

The last point of the article illustrates this amply. I even had relatives among the original Bolsheviks, but I still feel no need to apologize personally. The situation is far more complicated than people might want to think. It also illustrates the West's blind determination not to see Russians (as a nation) as victims. I'd like this recognized by the West, but I'm afraid I never will see that day.
