As much as I'm not a fan of Stalin, I'd like to remind you of the fact that ~6 million is not where Hitler's toll ends. A good 10 million Germans, 27 million Russians, and an assortment of people of other nations have died in World War II which, without a question, would not have occured without him.
As far as Stalin, I would raise the figure, too. I'm not sure where you got the ~27 million, but the issue is incredibly shady and could easily go as high as 40 or more.
Which one would I rather live under? I don't know. My entire family has lived through Stalin's regime and Hitler's war; just barely avoiding persecution during Stalin's times (and after!). One of my ancestor's died directly as a result of the actions of Germany and Finland (starved to death in Leningrad). If Hitler got his wish, I wouldn't be here because my grandmother had a Jewish last name.

Both of them have huge repercussions for today's world, but whereas Hitler's actions have a more direct effect on the whole world, Stalin's legacy is painfully alive in Russia - and I would argue is the main factor that is destroying that country right now.
For most people though, it should be Hitler. Trust me when I tell you this - Stalin really didn't play a role in your lives if you're not Russian/Soviet/Soviet block. Move along, folks. :hmm:
