Welcome to the forum and to the game..

Best bet is to browse the forums as much of what you say has been discussed in full numerous times.

Also there are mods and mods galore which in turn make this a much more fun and or realistic game depending on your tastes.Also they fix alot of the bugs and unfinished work the devs left over in the game.Try some of them out..they really change the game for the better.

Just to name some of the biggest mods out there at the moment.These combine many mods into 1 large mod making the game a whole new experience.

Real Uboat 1.45 (aka..RUB on the forum)
Harbor Traffic Mod
Improved Uboat Mod (aka IUB on forum)
SH3 Commander
