Because years of bad government (
probably even before B-Liar) cannot just be wiped out in a relatively short space of time.
The fact is (again, still) that Brown and B-Liar spent more than what was coming into the pot even when that pot was extremely full. They took none out and thought, 'I'll keep that in a separate pot for next year', they just went straight down to Asda and still bought more on the credit card...
I'm not saying that any other government would've been different, but I don't see what any other government could do afterwards either! Whoever was in power would have to do something, and that something would always be unpopular. Even I disagree with some decisions they've made though.
B-Liar's exit was timed well, over many things, this being just one of them.
