Since that time 'Bernard' has become the running joke. We blame all our mistakes on him.
Gargamel was saying it's Bernard's fault they all ran aground.
More seriously, did you save the game around that time. It's a bug that's never been fixed that any time you save near a harbor and then reload the game all the scripted ships lose their waypoints and run aground or into each other.
