That is the most fascinating disconnect about the whole deal. It is the companies who are arrogant, brutish, dictatorial, damning the public, robber barons without a conscience, bullies whose aim is to control, not serve humanity.
Apple and Sony are they same type of company: arrogant, rapacious, overcharging, anti-competition, them against the public, take no prisoners companies who do not hesitate to break the bounds of right and wrong to advance their control and limit their competition. How about that Sony gangsterism to corner the market on HD DVDs? You get to pay double what one should cost to finance their assassination of a better alternative. So you have both obscenely high prices and low quality forever. Jay Gould never pulled such a naked act of aggression and thuggery.
Both play the patent game to kill off anything with any resemblance to their products. Apple's "look and feel" campaign and Sony's music CD trojan horse, which permanently turned off your computer's ability to write a CD without your knowledge or consent are perfect examples of these company's lack of moral compass and out of control power lust.
Then you have their customers: normally left-leaning, peace and love, socially conscious, upwardly mobile, people who like to think of themselves as progressive, in favor of human rights, believing that the greatest good is accomplished through voluntary cooperation for the betterment of humanity. These are genuinely nice people who would help you out in an instant, even for no personal gain. But in their quest to be cool they make deals with Satan, these two companies which make a mockery of how they try to live and how these customers view their purpose in life.
It's insanity. It's not people who cannot see, these are the most highly educated, most enlightened people in our society. These are people who WILL not see because what are principles of justice when compared to being "cool." Hell, toss those silly principles right out the window. Come right over, Satan, let's party!
