If I decide to give TMO another try, I assume I would have to start the whole career again. 
However, if I try this utility I saw mention of somewhere which allows you to run more than one modded copy of the game ( can't recall the name but I guess it will be in the Mod section somewhere) will I be able to continue with my current career and create a new career for TMO??

Hi;
The program your talking about is called MultiSH4. You can run 2 or more different versions of SH4 on the same computer without messing up anyone version. The readme file in the download will explane it better. What it does is give you a chance to make a new game save folder under the My Documents folder where SH4 save all your game infomation (data of the game you save when you leave SH4).
Example; I'm running SH4 v1.5 TMO / RSRDC with OTC v1.5 on the first install of SH4. The second install is SH4 v1.5 RFB / RSRDC MaxOptics IV.
Under the My Documents folder I have for the first install a folder called SH4 all the save data goes to that folder, for the second install the folder is called CUS for the save data for that game.
When you change over to MultiSH4 all you do is make a copy of the total install you have now.
Example; Folder names on my computer
Under "My Programs(x86) or "My Programs" if your running Windows XP.

SH4 Custom
---Modded SH4 Custom(this is the copy of the first install)
Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific(this is the orginal install of SH4)
Under "My Documents" folder
CUS(what MultiSH4 made)
----Data for that version of SH4(Modded SH4 Custom)
SH4(the orignal game)
----Data for that version of SH4
The above is how the "My Documents" folder will look after using MultiSH4.
Because you made a copy of the orignal game then you can play the orignal game after you copy. Now you will end up at this point with two dulplicates. Then you can either un-mod the second to change it the way you want and the first one will stay the same.
